What is a doula?

A doula is a steady presence in your birth space — someone who offers continuous physical, emotional, and informational support throughout pregnancy, labor, and the early postpartum period.

I do not replace your medical provider or midwife. Instead, I walk alongside you — helping you understand your options, offering evidence-based information, providing comfort measures, and holding grounded space so you feel safe, respected, and supported.

Why hire a doula?

Birth is a powerful rite of passage. Having a caring, continuous support person with you — someone who knows your body, your emotions, your goals, and your questions — can make a meaningful difference in your birth experience and outcomes.

Research from multiple studies and global reviews shows that continuous labor support from a trained doula is associated with improved birth outcomes, fewer interventions, and higher satisfaction.

Do you attend hospital births or only home births?

Both.

I support families planning home births, hospital births, and birth center births. Each setting has its own rhythm and considerations, and my role adapts to meet you where you are.

In hospital settings, I help you navigate decisions, maintain your preferences where possible, and create a calm, grounded atmosphere within the medical environment.

In home births, I offer steady physical and emotional presence, supporting the natural flow of labor while your midwife oversees clinical care.

In the event of a transfer from home to hospital, I would be by your side. Wherever you birth, you deserve continuity of care.

What is the difference between a doula and a midwife?

A midwife or doctor is responsible for the medical care and safety of you and your baby.

A doula focuses on non-medical support — comfort measures, emotional reassurance, advocacy support, education, and helping you feel empowered in your choices.

Think of a doula as someone tending to the emotional, physical, and spiritual space of your birth while your provider tends the clinical aspects.

Will you replace my partner?

Never.

My role is to support both of you.

I help partners feel confident and prepared. I guide them in hands-on techniques, offer reassurance when labor intensifies, and ensure they have space to rest and stay grounded. Many partners say having a doula allows them to be more present and connected, not less.

Birth is a shared experience — I simply help steady the ground beneath you both.

When should we hire a doula?

The earlier, the better — especially if you’d like deeper preparation and ongoing support during pregnancy. That said, families sometimes reach out later in pregnancy, and I’m always happy to connect if availability allows.

What does “evidence-based” mean?

It means the information I share is rooted in current research and best practices rather than opinion or fear-based narratives. I believe informed consent is sacred. You deserve clear, unbiased information so you can make decisions that align with your values, your body, and your intuition.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. I understand that birth support is an investment. I am happy to discuss flexible payment options to make support more accessible for your family.

What happens after the birth?

We meet again for a postnatal visit where we:

  • Reflect on your birth story

  • Process emotions and experiences

  • Support early recovery

  • Discuss newborn care and nurtured parenting

  • Answer questions that arise in the early days

The postpartum season is tender and transformative — you deserve care there too.

What if my birth doesn’t go as planned?

Birth is unpredictable. While we prepare for your ideal birth, we also prepare for flexibility. My role is to support you emotionally and physically no matter how your birth unfolds — medicated or unmedicated, vaginal or cesarean. You deserve respect and steady care in every scenario.
